Suji Upma

Fast Cooking Recipes

Suji is very healthy and great for snacks. There are different recipes for upma, sooji upma is salty and sooji halwa is sweet in taste

Type of Meal : Mostly for Breakfast or snacks

Preparation Time : 5 minutes

Cooking Time : 15 minutes

Ingredients for Suji Upma

  • Rava / Sooji (Semolina) - 1/2 cup
  • Ginger(chopped) - 1/2 inch
  • Onion(chopped) - 1
  • Cumin seeds (Jeera) - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Green Chillies(slit) - 1
  • Black mustard seeds/ Rai - 1 teaspoon
  • Urad Daal - 1 teaspoon
  • Channa Daal - 1 teaspoon
  • Turmeric Powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Curry leaves
  • Ghee - 2 tablespoon
  • Salt to taste
  • coriander leaves

    Method for Suji Upma

    1. Heat 1/2 tablespoon ghee in a pan and fry rava on moderate heat, stiring constantly to pink color and set aside
    2. Now heat 1 tablespoon ghee in a kadai, add mustard and cumin seeds. When mustard seeds starts cracking add channa daal,urad daal, green chilies and curry leaves to it and fry for few seconds
    3. Add onion and fry till golden pink in colour. Add ginger and sauté for 2-3 minutes then add turmeric pd and salt
    4. Now add sooji and fry for 30 seconds then add 1.5 cups of water and allow it to simmer on low heat stirring constantly
    5. when sooji starts thickening add 1/2 cup of water and mix, cover it and let it cook for a minute then turn off the heat
    6. Garnish with coriander leaves
    7. Serve Sooji Rava Upma hot along with tea
