Chila Chaat ( Besan pancake )

Chila originated from Rajasthan. Cheela is quick to cook and very healthy as besan is the main ingredient. Also known as Mumbai street food, consumed a lot by Bombay daily office goers

Chilas: Gram Flour Pancakes originated in Rajasthan

Type of Meal :Mostly for Breakfast or snacks

Preparation Time : 5 minutes

Cooking Time : 3 - 5 minutes

Ingredients for chila recipe

  • Besan (gram flour) - 1 cup
  • Turmeric powder (haldi) - 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin powder (jeera) - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Onion(chopped ) - 1
  • Green chili(chopped) - 2
  • Tomato( chopped ) - 1
  • Chopped coriander - 2 tablespoons
  • Coriander chutney
  • Aamchur powder[Dried mango powder] (optional)
  • Salt ( to taste )
  • Oil

    Method for cheela recipe

    1. Take gram flour ( besan ) in a bowl, add salt, haldi powder, jeera powder to it
    2. Mix all the ingredients and make a thick batter using water
    3. Heat the oil in a pan
    4. Spread the batter to make a 2-5 mm. thick pancake
    5. Cook on both sides till golden brown
    6. Now spread coriander chutney on pancake and put layer by layer onion, tomato and green chili
      Optional: Sprinkle aamchur powder over it.
    7. Finely fold it to make a role.
    8. Using the same process, make pancakes from rest of the batter.
    9. Serve Cheela(Besan Pancake) hot with tomato sauce and chili sauce.
