Chicken Recipes - Chicken Curry Recipe, How to Make traditional Indian Curry Chicken

Chicken Curry

Chicken Recipes

Chicken curry is the regular chicken recipe which is taken along with rice where more gravy is required

Type of Meal : Mostly for Lunch, Dinner

Preparation Time : 30 minutes

Cooking Time : 60-90 minutes

Ingredients for Chicken Curry

  • Chicken : 1 KG - 1000 grams (Cut into medium pieces)
  • Bay Leaf (Tej Patta): 1
  • Onions: 5 medium (Chopped - medium size)
  • Green chilli - 3-4
  • Ginger Garlic Paste: 2 tablespoon
  • Oil: 5 tablespoons (Best taste comes with mustard oil)
  • Jeera (Cumin) powder 1 tablespoons
  • Turmeric (Haldi) powder: 1 teaspoon
  • Coriander (Dhania) powder: 2 tablespoons
  • Red chilli powder: 2 teaspoon (or more depending on how spicy you want)
  • Salt to taste
  • Garam masala powder: 1 teaspoon
  • Water - as required for curry

    Optional

  • Chicken or mutton powder: 1 tablespoon (Readymade MDH, Baadshah or some other company)
  • Black Pepper (Kaali Mirch): 4-5 whole (To make curry hot spicy)

    Method for Chicken Curry

    1. Wash chicken well and keep aside
    2. Heat oil in kadai
    3. Add green chillies cut into halves and bay leaf into the oil and leave for 30 seconds on medium heat
    4. Add chopped onions and saute for 3 min (or till onions become pink)
    5. Add turmeric powder and ginger-garlic paste and saute for 2 min
    6. Add jeera, dhania and saute for 4-5 min
    7. Add chicken pieces in the curry and saute for 2 min
    8. Add red chilli powder and salt and saute for 1 min
      Note: Sometimes chicken leaves lot of water in the curry, in that case fry the curry on high heat
    9. Fry the curry on high heat for 15 minutes, ensure you keep on stirring regularly
    10. Keep on adding little water in case the curry gets sticked in the bottom of kadai
    11. Add garam masala or ready made chicken/mutton powder in the curry and saute for 5 minutes
    12. Lastly add black pepper and saute for 1 min
    13. Put water in the gravy (Amount of water depends on the quantity of chicken curry you want)
    14. Saute on medium heat for 2 min
    15. Simmer for 15 minutes on low heat till chicken pieces are tender
    16. Serve chicken curry hot with Paratha or Plain Rice
